Remove AI Labels — What Metadata Cleaning Can Do

Understand AI labels on Instagram and Facebook, inspect embedded signals, and prepare a cleaned local copy of your photo.

Last updated: 2026-11-07

Start with the source of the label

An AI label on a social platform can come from embedded content credentials, other signals, or a disclosure made when posting. Editing a local photo cannot update a post that is already online.

Inspect the file you plan to share

Open the free metadata cleaner and select a JPEG, PNG or WebP photo. Review the detected containers. XMP, IPTC and content credential containers can carry information about editing or generation, but their presence alone does not establish how an image was made.

Clean supported embedded metadata

Choose Remove metadata, then download the cleaned copy. The tool removes supported metadata containers while retaining compressed image data, color profiles and any orientation field needed for display. Keep your original if its attribution or provenance matters to you.

For a label on an existing post

Review the post's AI information and the platform's current help or review options. A newly cleaned local copy cannot change the platform's existing record. Any decision to disclose AI use should follow the platform's requirements.

What remains in the image

Visible marks and invisible watermarks encoded in pixels remain. Platforms may also use signals beyond file metadata. A download from this tool comes with no guarantee about a future platform label.
